It is a kind of tradition for WorldConnex presenting the updates of our WaidX telemedicine projects at WorldCancerDay, the annual event promoted by UICC.

As usual, last February 4th WorldConnex attended this important event.
One of our aims thanks to WaidX has always been to bridge the technological gap in Telemedicine between countries with different levels of development. So, we played on this aspect to customize the reference theme for WCD 2020 in "I am WaidX and I Will close the Gap in Telemedicine".

WaidX Telepathology Project for the remote connection of different Pathology departments in the Horn of Africa.

WorldCancerDay2020: I am WaidX and I Will Close the Gap in Telemedicine
The commitment of WorldConnex in favour of APOF NGO for the development of the "Horn of Africa" Project never stops, towards the ambitious goal of creating a network of Pathology laboratories among different countries of the Horn of Africa.
Thanks to the main funding of Chiesa Valdese and to the valuable contribution of Rotary Club Djibouti Doyen, as well as the co-financing of WorldConnex focused on WaidX platform, the Digital Pathology facility of Balbala Hospital in Djibouti was implemented in its definitive equipment and the telediagnostic service became fully operational.
In the meantime, APOF specialists completed the commissioning of the Pathology Department at Hargeisa Group Hospital, in Somaliland. During november 2019 three young lab technicians from HGH have been trained with a specialization course in the Pathology Department of Balbala Hospital, as part of the partnership running between the two hospitals.
Next March, WorldConnex specialists will install WaidX platform and the Digital Pathology facility at HGH Pathology Department, creating a diagnostic network between the two hospitals and the APOF specialist operating from Italy, based on dynamic Telepathology.
New requests are coming from other hospitals in developing countries to join this multicentric model.
WaidX network is growing up!

WaidX Telepathology Project for the Hôpital Militaire de Djibouti.

The Hôpital Militaire de Djibouti is a health facility which provides high quality public healthcare for the entire population of the country.
After the successful realization of the Digital Pathology project at the nearby Hopital de Balbala, the Hopital Militaire management headed by colonel Madian Mohamamed Said asked APOF NGO and WorldConnex for support to realize a new Pathology Department, integrating existing laboratory resources and the contributions of foreign specialists through Telepathology.
Under the operational coordination of Dr. Miriam Martinelli, in the span of 18 months between 2018 and 2019 the new laboratory was built on the back of the hospital, lab technicians were trained by APOF specialists, and WorldConnex carried out the implementation of Digital Pathology facility based on WaidX telemedicine platform.
The official inauguration of the Pathology Department took place on 16th nov 2019, with the official visit of the Defense Minister of Djibouti Hassan Omar Mohamed Bourhan and the General in chief of the armed forces Zakaria Cheikh Ibrahim. The authorities thanked APOF NGO and WorldConnex for their commitment in favor of healthcare diffusion to the people of Djibouti.
The implementation of the Pathology Department allowed to achieve the goal of a cost reduction in terms of 1/9 for the exams previously outsourced, with the dramatic reduction in diagnosys delivery time from an average of 3 months to 3-5 days.
We believe that this scenario could define a model for diffusion of diagnostic facilities in developing countries.
